There is the wider life plan (updated here), and then this, an attempt to build a bucket list as my life marches inexorably on to the 40th birthday in 2020. In no particular order then, here goes:

  1. Meet, fall in love with, actively chase and marry the woman of my dreams (who loves me back in the same way).
  2. Visit with sponsored children and their families for two weeks.
  3. Save one year’s living expenses (~30k) in an (untouched) ISA
  4. Start or complete a PhD
  5. Publish a book (currently considering a book of poems or essays around the ambivalence of ageing, and turning 40 with the working title - The Crux of The Matter: Occasional Essays on Everything)
  6. Save 30% of my net earnings over the decade from 2009 to 2019.
  7. Learn a second language.
  8. Properly articulate my world view (in a series of blog posts, what I believe?)
  9. Read every book that has been awarded the Man Booker Prize (currently read 9).
  10. Acquire a second nationality
  11. Take the significant other on a two week boat cruise
  12. Complete a 10k race for charity
  13. Take a two week holiday and document the visit in a travelogue.
  14. Sleep in the outdoors.
  15. Write a blog for 365 consecutive days (aim for 2016?)
  16. Launch ‘The Integrity Business’ - my Corrosion, Materials, Welding and Inspection consultancy  - or become Corrosion and Materials Technical Authority at an Oil Major (currently TA at a small Oil & Gas company as at YE 2015).
  17. Watch the Ball drop in New York’s Time Square live.
  18. Visit Brazil - complete a ‘pilgrimage’ to the Statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio.
  19. Watch a Champions League final live
  20. Tour Anfield
  21. See one of Third Day, Delirious, Hillsong United or Rebecca St James live in concert.
  22. Get a private pilot licence.
  23. Learn to play the guitar
  24. Learn to swim
  25. Visit the New Seven Wonders of Nature.
  26. Walk the Edinburgh Royal Mile/Attend the Fringe Festival
  27. Travel the route of the Orient Express by train (Paris to Istanbul)
  28. Visit the sites of the Seven Churches referenced in Revelations 3
  29. Travel by train from London to Athens.
  30. Visit the Detroit Institute of Art
  31. Drive down Route 66 in America
  32. See the pyramids in Egypt
  33. Take a ride in a hot air balloon
  34. Climb the Eiffel tower

Completed

  1. Sponsor a child (Done with WorldVision Nov 11, 2010 and Compassion UK in 2013)
  2. Lose twenty kilograms, maintain an 80kg weight(+/- 2kg) - achieved end January 2014; targets now revised to 80kg + 15% body fat.
  3. Buy a city centre flat (2 bed, 2 baths) done 30.01.2015
  4. Attain a P.Eng or C.Eng status in an Engineering discipline
  5. Be head hunted for a job that pays greater than £100k (offered, but turned it down :( )
  6. Take a boat ride down the Chicago River and take a river tour.
